As per the company, the Freedom 251 smartphone will fall in line with “empowering India to the last person, transforming India’s growth story”. Earlier this month, Ringing Bell had also launched a 4G-enabled smartphone Smart 101 costing ₹3000. “The final price announcement and the launch would be done by Shri Manohar Parrikkar, Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, in the presence of Shri Murali Manohar Joshi, Hon’ble Member of Parliament”, said a press release from the company.

The new smartphone from Ringing Bells is the latest accomplishment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Make in India project.

But launching a phone at Rs. 500 is surely a thing to watch out.

Since the phone is being heavily endorsed by the Central government as a part of the Make in India, Digital India and Skill India initiatives, the Freedom 251 is expected to have decent specification. The company has not yet divulged details about the manufacturing, products and pricing. It will be interesting to see whether or not Ringing Bells is able to manufacture and sell this device at a large scale. Last year, Data Wind, the makers of Aakash tablets and telecom operator Reliance Communications had announced a smartphone based on Linux OS for Rs.999. The Smartphone will be popularly priced at under Rs 500.

An Indian handset maker will tomorrow launch the country’s cheapest smartphone, in a move that’s likely to disrupt its booming mobile market of over 200 million users. With 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage along with a MicroSD card slot, it was sporting an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 3.2MP selfie camera on the front, backed by 2,800mAh battery.
