A congressman took Pope Francis’ glass and drank his water

ABC News reports that, after the speech, Brady “bee-lined for the podium, picked up the glass Pope Francis drank out of, and brought it back to his office”.

Brady said he took it to his office and had a drink. Pennsylvania U.S Senator Bob Casey says, Pope Francis mentioned five words that were directed at every member in the joint session of Congress Thursday morning.

But there was one congressman headed in the other direction.

He intends to pay for the glass he took from Capitol Hill, the newspaper reported, but his request apparently got laughed off. He plans on sending a check.

The Pope had sipped from the glass three times during his speech.

“The congressman is a Catholic and has vast respect for the Holy Father”, Rep. Brady’s Chief of Staff Stan White told ABC.

Brady said he used a bottle to save the rest for his four grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, saying he would bless them with it. “Anything the pope touches becomes blessed”, he told the Washington Post.

What’s next? Brady says the glass will be sent to forensics to authenticate the claims that it was used by the pope himself.

He’s done it before, when he swiped President Barack Obama’s glass after his inauguration in 2009. That’s where congressman Bob Brady of Philadelphina stepped in.
