Her sister Theresa Williams described how when the shooting first started, “Taylor threw herself over her sons” according to the Associated Press. Her wounds were not fatal and she is now recovering in the hospital.
Shetamia Taylor is one of two civilians injured during the Dallas shooting. “All she could think about was her three other boys – where are they at?”
Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown said that, despite initial reports of at least four snipers, the suspect who died in the standoff might have acted alone.
Sherie Williams, left, and Theresa Williams, center, speak to the media as they leave the Baylor University Medical Center, Friday, July 8, 2016, in Dallas. Despite the assailants’ obvious intent to harm or kill cops, however, peaceful protesters in the immediate area were caught in the crossfire – including a mother who was hit while protecting her children.
After getting hit, Williams said Taylor jumped on top of her 15-year-old son on the ground, and pushed him in between vehicles and the curb.
Two of Taylor’s sons were separated from their mother in the aftermath of the shooting – reportedly stuck behind a police barricade near the parking garage where the shooting took place.

“She’s not so much anxious about the gunshot wound she has on her leg”, Williams told WFAA. “We’re watching the news in the hospital room, and all she can do is say, ‘Lord, be with those families of the police officers.’ And that’s what she kept repeating”.
