A Drunk Star Wars Recap Might Be The Best Kind
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award victor Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. The previous record was held by Jurassic World, which earned $296.2 million during its first week at the domestic box office earlier this year.

The Force remains strong with the new “Star Wars” movie, which is on track to top $1 billion in global ticket sales this weekend, making it the fastest-ever film to reach that level. The overall Friday number will easily surpass the previous top Christmas box office in 2009 ($86 million), when Sherlock Holmes opened and Avatar was in its second weekend.
In addition to its week record, The Force Awakens also broke the record for the biggest Christmas Day gross of all time. The new “Star Wars” has already topped Jurassic World for the largest opening weekend this month and looks certain to clear $1 billion by Sunday, according to Rentrak Corp., an industry researcher.
