A Few Glitches As Voters Cast Ballots Across Central Florida

Bartholomew says troubleshooters stepped in to help open the affected polling places.
When the polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, almost 20 percent of Pinellas Countys registered voters had already cast a ballot via early voting or through the mail.
Mathis received 599 votes (45.52 percent) and Driggers received 403 votes (30.62 percent).
Voter turnout in the August primary election has typically covered between 18-21 percent over the last 10 years, a decline from previous years like 2002, where the voter turnout was as high at 29 percent.
The Florida Division of Elections also wants to remind you that while polls close at 7 p.m., Florida has two time zones.
The polls aren’t expected to be busy because a record-number of voters have already turned in their ballots through the mail.
After being notified about the issue, workers at the Supervisor of Elections Office spent the morning contacting every precinct to make sure the databases were updated and fail-safes were in place.
