A few Skippy peanut butter recalled due to possiblility of metal in jar

Certain 16.3-ounce jars of SKIPPY Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter spread are being recalled because they might contain metal shavings. Spokesman for the company stated that the metal shavings got into the Skippy jars after a machine malfunction that has already been fixed.

The recall involves 153 cases, or 1,871 pounds, of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread. The affected jars have a “Best If Used By” date of DEC1416LR1.

AL.com reports seven states are affected as the recalled peanut butter was delivered to Publix, Target and Wal-Mart distribution centers in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware, Arkansas and Virginia. The equipment has since been identified and repaired. No injuries linked to this recall have been reported thus far. The code date is located on top of the lid. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that objects in excess of 7mm long present a serious health hazards, as they can cause one to choke, obstruct one’s airway, cause a perforation of the gastrointestinal tract, or cause an infection.
