A history of Patriots quarterbacks other than Tom Brady

The Patriots’ NFL football training camp is to begin Thursday, July 28. Only, the applause was directed at the guy he will be replacing for the first month of the season.

There was a fleeting moment last season when the spot Garoppolo now finds himself in almost played itself out.

Unfortunately, it probably won’t be the last time, and expect it to get even worse should Garoppolo pull off a strong start to the regular season. Brady at one point showed his frustrations as he slammed his helmet to the ground after his offensive team could not run down the play they were working on. Tom Brady, however, won’t be the starter for the first four weeks due to his Deflategate suspension.

Unless you are a Patriots fan, you have no idea who about Chris Hogan.

For the millions of people who take joy in watching this already-unhinged fanbase spiral completely out of control, nothing would bring more pleasure than Jimmy looking like a Hall of Famer for four games, only to be supplanted by a couple of games of Brady looking rusty and over-the-hill.

While he certainly wasn’t rooting for Brady to be sidelined, Garoppolo recognizes what is immediately ahead.

“You know, I’m just trying to go out there and get my game right”, Garoppolo said. “You might only get one”.

It ended over a year of back-and-forth between Brady and the league, which included two appeals of the ban. “So we’ve got to take care of our end and make sure we do our job and make sure we do our part, and what’s happening in New England will happen”.

Regardless of the Patriots’ situation – and the fact that Ryan Fitzpatrick is still a free agent and first-round pick Darron Lee has not signed a contract – the Jets believe they have the personnel to make the playoffs in Todd Bowles’ second season as coach.

Jimmy Garoppolo faced more than a dozen cameras and a wall of media members after his first public training camp practice of 2016.

“His preparation, the time he spends at it, he cares deeply about getting better each day”, McDaniels said. “Coaches coach us and we just go out there and play”. I assume so. That would seem to be nothing more than human nature. “We’ll just see how it plays out”. It’s big change for a fan base that once had trouble pronouncing or spelling his name.

“Just his power of the ball, his accuracy going out there”, Gronk said when asked to explain the strengths of Garoppolo.

Since 2001, Brady has led the Patriots in passing every season besides 2008, when he tore his ACL in the season opener. The next few home games are Cincinnati, Seattle, and Los Angeles; all three boast strong defenses with two of the three being serious Super Bowl contenders.

That may not be good news for the equipment staff that has to deal with the fallout of busted gear.
