A-level results 2015: Live updates and reaction as London students collect

Approximately 300,000 students in Northern Ireland, England and Wales will be heading to schools and colleges to receive their grades.

Now, here we are again, and for thousands of 17 and 18-year-olds across west London, the all-important day is finally here. The grades are personal triumphs: resulting of course from great teaching – but above all from immensely hard work by the boys and girls themselves.

According to this study from the University of Swansea, just 17% believed that Clearing only applied to those who didn’t get the grades they needed, while a staggering 55% were not aware of the Clearing process and what it involved.

Possibly – it can depend on a number of things and comes down to supply and demand.

He said: “The vast majority of people, whatever their final choice of course or university, say that their experience at university was a worthwhile and enjoyable one”.

He also reminded students they can phone a careers advisor at the National Careers Service from 8am to 10pm on 0800 100 900.

Today, Staffordshire University will also be offering help and advice from mobile clearing clinics located at schools and sixth forms across the region including the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, Newcastle College, Biddulph High School, St Thomas More Catholic Academy in Longton and Halesowen College.

Keep an eye on UCAS Track as your university status should change from “Conditional” to “Unconditional”.

Newman University, in Bartley Green, said it had a number of places through clearing and it was being “careful” in the number of students it was recruiting.

Consider different subjects – you don’t have to stick with your original idea. Ucas use a system called Adjustment in order for those students to find, and apply to universities. They will be able to advise you about the options that are available.

Many Teessiders will be celebrating getting onto their dream university course – but for those who just miss out, there are plenty of opportunities through the UCAS Clearing system, which officially starts today. Admissions officers are more likely to be impressed if you have thought about what you want to study.

“Remember that no question is too small for the clearing team – they are there to help you come to the right decision for you”.

“Make your shortlist of universities and courses and call the Clearing team as soon as possible on A level results day”.

If you sign up you can still go through Clearing in the same way as previous years.

“Many places on popular courses are filled by mid-morning on results day, so don’t delay”.

Teenagers across the country are opening their A-level results this morning with teachers hopeful for a pass rate rise following last year’s historic drop.

Elly Sample, director of communications, development and marketing at the University of Lincoln, said: “We know that going to university is not on the agenda for everyone who is collecting their exam results this week – but we are also steadfast in our belief that anyone with the ability and desire to go to university should have the chance to do so”.
