Despite the decline, a record numbers of students were accepted on university courses.

“Students achieved a 100% pass rate in the majority of subjects”.

Stewart Harper, the associate registrar at Leeds Beckett said: “In 2015 over 64,000 students gained a university place through clearing: which is around 12 per cent of all acceptances; so it very much isn’t a “second best” option”.

New headteacher Mark Bradshaw said: “Once again we are delighted with the achievements of our students and there have been some exceptional results”.

“Many students are going on to take up places at the top universities in the country such as York, Warwick, Nottingham, Newcastle and Manchester”.

South Hunsley Sixth Form College has continued a four-year trend of outstanding performance.

Numbers achieving the highest possible grades increased from a year ago, with 9 per cent of grades at A* and 74 per cent at A*-B.

“Students have done well across the board, with many students achieving top grades”.

Results are out at 9.30am and stories will be coming in from later this morning. Almost three-quarters of the grades achieved (72.3 per cent) were the top grades of A*- B with a record 44.7 per cent at A*- A. Forty-six students achieved the excellent standard of three or more passes at A/A*. Our A*- C grades were 80% and we achieved 99% pass rate overall at A Level and 100% at BTEC. Students are working hard, making very good progress, and the high grades being achieved mean that they will now be able to move on to their first choice destination, whether it be a good university or a high-quality apprenticeship.
