A Little Loopy, But Still Cool to Win — Golden Globes

The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards took place Sunday, and while plenty of Oscar-nominated actors and films won Golden Globes, many predicted Oscar winners went home with nothing. The actor previously won a Golden Globe in 1998 for Best Screenplay – Motion Picture for ‘Good Will Hunting.’ Jim Carrey also presented the film’s director, Ridley Scott, with the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

There was a lot of cheering at the Golden Globes viewing party held by media conglomerate 21st Century Fox on Sunday night.

Actor Sylvester Stallone was given a standing ovation by the audience as he won the best supporting actor in a motion picture for “Creed”. After failing to pick up a single award at the Golden Globes, this may no longer be the case. Cranston lost to DiCaprio for best actor at the Golden Globes.

“The Revenant” won three awards: Best Drama Film, Best Drama Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Director for Alejandro Inarritu. The Hollywood Reporter ranked Larson at the top of its list with Saoirse Ronan’s performance in Brooklyn as its top threat.

The latest saga in the Star Wars line-up was released in mid-December, well after the October 30 deadline for Golden Globe submissions.

The Globes have the odds in their favor in the Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress categories. In the television category, “Mr. Robot” won for best TV drama series.

“A few years ago on this show, I made a joke about Mel Gibson getting a bit drunk and saying a few unsavoury things”, he said. The Oscar for best picture went to “Birdman“, which was nominated in the comedy/musical category at the Golden Globes, losing to “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.

“Mozart in the Jungle”, an Amazon series, won for best comedy television show.

It appears everyone wants DiCaprio to go home with an Oscar this year, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was no exception. It was a second Globe win for the actor.

“This is a very kind representation of that”, he said. “When Ricky Gervais hosts an awards show, you pretty much know what you’re gonna get”. During her acceptance speech, she admitted that she wanted to be an actress before she wanted to be a singer.

In her speech for winning best supporting actress in a TV series, movie, or limited series for The Affair, Maura Tierney committed a classic public speaking sin, using the phrase “uh” or “um” more than 20 times in less than two minutes.

“I’m thinking ‘What the f-, wow, this is really weird, great, incredible, ‘ ” Bernal told EW about his mindset after hearing his name being called as the victor. “Thank you”, she said. “But music worked out first”.

The handsomely mounted and well-acted “Wolf Hall”, the PBS-BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s historical novels starring Damian Lewis and Mark Rylance, was a surprise victor in the best TV miniseries category, beating out the favorite “Fargo”.
