A look at what a hung Parliament means for Britain

“It’s just how long she’s going to remain on death row”, former Conservative finance minister George Osborne, who was sacked by May when she became prime minister a year ago, told the BBC.

Downing St. has already said that the most senior ministers – including Treasury chief Philip Hammond, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Amber Rudd – will keep their jobs. However, the DUP later said talks would continue.

– David Blevins (@skydavidblevins) June 10, 2017NEW: Downing St now backtracking on having sorted confidence and supply deal with DUP.

The prime minister maintained that the Brexit talks would begin as planned next week, but with her party’s loss of 13 seats and its parliamentary majority, May will rely on the support of the DUP vote by vote.

A Conservative government with a strong majority, as had been predicted before the vote, would have given Prime Minister Theresa May a freer hand in Brexit negotiations to make the compromises necessary for a deal.

Sam Gyimah both of whose parents are Ghanaian won Surrey East for the Conservative party with 59.6% of the vote and Kwasi Kwarteng both of whose parents are Ghanaian won Spelthorne for the Conservative party with 57.3% of the vote.

Not in a formal coalition like we saw in 2010 but via agreements made between the two parties, the 10 elected seats the DUP won following yesterday’s election are set to propel the Tories to a slender majority just short of the majority held prior to May’s decision to call the snap General Election. “This is a government that is going to be governing for everyone, we want a country that works for everyone”, she told Sky News.

Mrs May’s first task will be a reshuffle of her ministry, as the party lost eight ministers in the election including one cabinet minister.

ROGER SCULLY: Well, I think a major thing that happened is that the Conservative Party effectively undermined the core message of their own campaign.

“She said, ‘Give me a mandate.’ And the answer was, ‘No.’ And that means we have to rethink everything, the entirety of the way we’re doing Brexit”, Dunt said. The DUP is a socially conservative group that opposes abortion and same-sex marriage and had links to Protestant paramilitary groups during Ireland’s sectarian “Troubles”.

If she is to succeed in delivering the end of Britain’s European Union membership which 52 percent of the British public demanded a year ago, she must find a way to recapture the full support of her party because she will need their votes to pass legislation preparing for and ultimately enacting the departure.

An ally of Mr Johnson told the newspaper: “We are facing a populist and they have realised we need someone who can talk to the people”.

The Conservatives are trying to seal a deal with Northern Ireland’s DUP, following last week’s poor election showing. “This is still on”.
