A look back at the Republican National Convention
“I did hear him congratulate Donald Trump”, Pence said Thursday, smiling maniacally.

Trump has chosen “an incredibly divisive and unpopular running mate known for supporting discriminatory politics and failed economic policies that favour millionaires and corporations over working families”, said John Podesta, chair of Hillary for America. “There is no doubt in my mind he will bring real change to Washington”.
Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday that “if we can not be properly reimbursed for the tremendous cost of our military protecting other countries [then] yes, I would be absolutely prepared to tell those countries, ‘Congratulations, you will be defending yourself'”.
Pence would later explain in his address: “For those of you who don’t know me, which is most of you, I grew up on the front row of the American dream”.
That’s a far cry from three weeks ago, when Dunn said he was out shooting sporting clays with Pence. But everything she’s learned since has been positive. “I think he is certainly a great addition to the ticket”.
“There’s a lot of friction under the surface here”, said Doug Brubaker, the Lancaster County delegate who was the only one from Pennsylvania not to vote for Trump in the Tuesday night roll call.
“He’s a doer in a game usually reserved for talkers”, Pence said.
Democrats and the media can’t figure him out, Pence added.
In a statement, Holcomb said he’s as honored to receive Pence’s endorsement as he was in February when Pence chose him to replace Ivy Tech Community College President Sue Ellspermann as lieutenant governor.
“Mr. Chairman, delegates, friends, and my fellow Americans: Thank you from the bottom of my heart”, Pence said at the start of his GOP convention speech.
The man, who described himself as “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican”, came under fire for signing the “Religious Freedom” bill in 2015 that some said allowed businesses to deny services to gays by invoking religious reasons.
Brooks and Rokita have less public support but are continuing to press their cases following a week of jockeying for the nomination with state committee members during last week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. “But in the course of the campaign, I’m just excited about being able to travel all across the country and tell people about this good man who I believe will be a great president, but also to lay out the choice that the American people face”. McIver said she offer to resign over the error, but Trump, in his magnanimity, accepted her apology instead. “Now he belongs to the nation”.

It was a brilliant clean-up act, and his speech went on to breathe energy back into the crowd. “He’s a national figure now”.
