A North Carolina Sports Institution Is Moving Games Out Of The State

McCrory gave a midday speech in his hometown of Charlotte on Thursday, the day after the Atlantic Coast Conference removed several championship events from North Carolina, including the football title game in Charlotte. “I strongly encourage all public and private institutions to both respect and allow our nation’s judicial system to proceed without economic threats or political retaliation toward the 22 states that are now challenging government overreach”. Cooper says there’s no end in sight to these losses until House Bill 2 is repealed.

“The decision to move the neutral site championships out of North Carolina while HB2 remains the law was not an easy one but it is consistent with the shared values of inclusion and non-discrimination at all of our institutions”, Clemson University president James P. Clements, chair of the ACC Council of Presidents, said in a statement.

Scott Dupree, executive director of the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, said the recent announcements by the NCAA and ACC were “unprecedented and historically bad” for the state’s sports event industry.

Officials at Memphis have said any decision about the 2017 South Regional semifinals and finals – which they’re scheduled to host – rests with the NCAA after the state passed a law that allows therapists to decline to see patients based on religious values and personal principles.

The ACC Council of Presidents voted on Wednesday to relocate 10 neutral site championships for this academic year until North Carolina appeals House Bill 2.

Republican leaders in the state, including Governor Pat McCrory, have not backed off their support for the measure.

“Certainly, the president agrees with the values that were articulated by the leaders of both the ACC and the NCAA when they talked about their commitment to equality and justice for every American”, Earnest said.

First the National Basketball Association, then the NCAA, now the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) are all giving North Carolina a goodbye. For more than 60 years, ACC headquarters have been located in nearby Greensboro, which is also where early rounds of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament would have been held in March before the decision.

He also told Swofford that the ACC, NCAA and other companies and organizations now boycotting North Carolina because of the controversial law known as House Bill 2 are guilty of “profound hypocrisy” for “making calculated business decisions disguised as moral outrage”.

While dozens of Democratic lawmakers at the General Assembly have called for repeal of the law approved in March, Republican legislative leaders and GOP Gov.

If the ACC is deciding to relocate championship games out of North Carolina over HB2, it’s hard to say what’ll go next.
