A’s officially trade Reddick, Hill to Dodgers

At one point, Hill was considered a prize of the deadline.

Holmes and Montas are the two prizes of the deal. Combined with a three-game losing streak by Houston, the Rangers’ division lead has grown to six games, their biggest gap since the All-Star break after leading by as many as 10 games in late June.

A 29-year-old right-hander, Nova follows relievers Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, and outfielder Carlos Beltran out of NY. He now holds a 9-3 record, 2.25 ERA, 55 hits against, 90 strikeouts, and 28 walks in 76 innings pitched.

However, his struggle to stay healthy this season is a real concern. The 36-year-old was placed on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 20) over the weekend for a blister on his left middle finger, but he should boost Los Angeles’ rotation upon his return.

The Oakland Athletics put Rich Hill on the disabled list as he works to come back from blister issues. And though all teams have their own means of assessing prospects – some of which vary greatly from those used to construct the major national prospects lists – the package the Dodgers gave up for the pair of pending free-agents seems eminently reasonable compared to some of the other rental hauls this season.

Reddick may be the secondary piece for the Dodgers in this deal, but he is still a significant addition.

The Blue Jays interest in Hill wasn’t much of a surprise, but their interest in Reddick is.

“I’m very excited about the trade”, Cotton said Monday night. And as many have already pointed out, Reddick is that replacement.

The A’s moved two of their biggest trade chips in a significant deal hours before Monday’s non-waiver trade deadline.

– The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Josh Reddick and left handed pitcher Rich Hill.

As they continue to rebuild, the Oakland Athletics picked up three more prospects to help them with that prospect, Grant Holmes, Frankie Montas, and Jharel Cotton all made their way to Oakland. Holmes is ranked as the eighty-second best prospect in baseball and the third best prospect in the Athletics organization right now.

The A’s got themselves a pretty nice haul here. Hill will eventually go into a rotation that is missing injured ace Clayton Kershaw. If he is traded, then he will most likely sign a small contract with that team, so it is a win-win situation. The Dodgers farm system is well stocked, which will certainly interest A’s general manager David Forst, and executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane.

Overall, this deal was an overpay, but just about every trade that’s been made this season has been an overpay.
