A’s Trade Josh Reddick, Rich Hill to Dodgers

255 average. A steady, consistent bat, Reddick brings stability to the Los Angeles order, as well as an average glove, ensuring that they won’t lose anything defensively for Reddick’s bat. 265 with 25 homers and a National League-leading 80 RBIs. Reddick gives the lineup some much-needed pop, and allows President Andrew Friedman and GM Farhan Zaidi the flexibility to make an even bigger move. If New York only wants him for the duration of this season, they can buyout the contract for $1 million. But while the A’s can punt on a season and simply point toward the future, the Dodgers don’t have that luxury. The outfield will likely need a little bit of shuffling has Bruce has played all but 53 games in his career in right field. This was a big trade though and should help the Athletics long-term. The Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, and Toronto Blue Jays have all been players for the resurgent pitcher.

It should be noted that the Dodgers aren’t scheduled to be in Oakland Coliseum the rest of the season, so he won’t see his bleacher friends featured by this newspaper a year ago. After acquiring Reddick who will start in right field, the Dodgers will now look to trade struggling star, Yasiel Puig.

The A’s will receive a package of pitchers that includes right-handed reliever Jharel Cotton and right-handed starters Frankie Montas and Grant Holmes.

Both Reddick and Hill are free agents after this season.

There have been more then a few teams in interested in Hill. Bolsinger made 21 starts for Los Angeles a year ago, going 6-6 with a 3.62 ERA.

Hill has been shelved for the past two weeks with a blister in his throwing hand. He had been scheduled to pitch Sunday in Cleveland before the DL stint.

Asked about the deadline trade that sent Reddick and Rich Hill to the Dodgers, Melvin said, “It’s not a great feeling, but we kind of put ourselves in this position”.

Moore was one of the Rays young starters that was at least rumored to be available at the deadline, and he was for the price of three players.

Holmes and Montas are the two prizes of the deal.

Moore is a talented pitcher. When healthy this season, he’s been terrific, using his plus curveball to generate a 2.25 ERA with 90 strikeouts and 28 walks in 76 innings. Oakland only has two players with contracts that are at least $10 million in average annual value.

Montas began the year at Double-A Tulsa and had no decisions and a 1.93 ERA in three games, one start, before he was promoted to Oklahoma City at the end of May. Reddick had a 32-home run and 20-homer season in four full years in Oakland. Based on their peripheral stats, they absolutely can.
