A’s trade Reddick, Hill to Dodgers for prospects
Grant Holmes was the Dodgers’ 5th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com, with Frankie Montas in 8th and Jharel Cotton 13th. He’s now on the disabled list, but A’s manager Bob Melvin said in Cleveland on Sunday he expected Hill to be able to come off the DL and start Friday.

Colin Rea is heading back to the San Diego Padres after leaving with an injury in his first start since being traded to Miami.
Hill will add to a rotation that is still without Clayton Kershaw – at least, once Hill’s blister concerns are behind him.
This is a 2016 photo of Rich Hill of the Oakland Athletics baseball team.
Montas began the year at Double-A Tulsa and had no decisions and a 1.93 ERA in three games, one start, before he was promoted to Oklahoma City at the end of May.
For example, the Texas Rangers are a potential landing spot for Rich Hill, before the August 1 trade deadline.
Reddick, 29, continues to put out solid production. Reddick is batting.296/.368/.449 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs this season. 322 with an. 860 OPS on May 19 when a fractured left thumb landed him on the disabled list for more than a month.
The arrival of Reddick could also very well mean the end of Yasiel Puig‘s time with the Boys in the Blue.
Oakland was able to secure a solid package of young pitching, an area that has been sorely lacking for them in the past. It takes a special bit of magic to get three top 15 prospects for players with expiring contracts.
Holmes is 8-4 with a save and a 4.02 ERA in 20 games, 18 starts, for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga.
The Los Angeles Dodgers killed two birds with one stone. But his 9-3 record and 2.25 ERA is especially tempting to contending clubs in a pitching-poor trade deadline environment. Strikeout rate, while not the be-all, end-all, is a good indicator of ability, and there isn’t a team in the majors that wouldn’t want Cotton, Holmes and Montas in their system. Scouts cite his size and mechanics as possible issues in his journey to becoming a starter. They got All-Star left-hander Cole Hamels last season after the pitcher voided a proposed trade that would have sent him from Philadelphia to Houston.

The Dodgers could elect to keep Puig, but this deal lays the groundwork for a massive follow-up blockbuster for one of the rumored aces on the market, either the White Sox Chris Sale or the Rays Chris Archer.
