A title and ship for new ‘Star Trek’ series: ‘Discovery’

The premiere will be broadcast on CBS´s main channel, with the rest showing on subscription service CBS All Access in North America and Netflix – with a delay of 24 hours – in the rest of the world.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The next chapter of the “Star Trek” franchise will be called “Star Trek: Discovery”.

He didn´t elaborate, but “non-episodic” series typically have story arcs which run across a whole season or even longer, unlike the previous five “Star Trek” shows, which were mainly made up of self-contained episodes.

“We are telling the story in a modern way, which allows us not to try to wrap up the tale in 42 minutes”.

“Because it’s on CBS All Access, you’re not going to miss anything, because it’s right there at your fingertips”, Fuller said.

Other Star Trek alumni participating in the panel included Next Generation’s Brent Spiner, and Michael Dorn, as well as Voyager’s Jeri Ryan and Enterprise’s Scott Bakula.

“It’s essential”, Shatner said.

Fuller then asked Shatner whether, if he could undo Captain Kirk’s death, if he would want to tell continuing stories of the character.

The Star Trek 50th anniversary panel brought together old and new members of the Star Trek universe and although the focus was on exploring the history and importance of the series, showrunner Bryan Fuller took some time to talk about his upcoming series on CBS, Star Trek Discovery.
