INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – At least 80 homes were destroyed and 1,000 more were damaged when a tornado slammed into a central IN city this week, state police said Friday, as another storm unrooted trees and stranded drivers IN floodwaters IN Indianapolis.
Marc Dahmer, with the NWS in Indianapolis, said 20 minor injuries were reported in Kokomo. But surveys were continuing and the storm tally was expected to rise, said Mike Ryan, a weather service meteorologist in Indianapolis. The area was hit by tornados Wednesday afternoon.

Several of those tornadoes struck Howard County, where the south side of the city of Kokomo suffered extensive damage.
A 5-month-old child who suffered a laceration in Montgomery County was among the injured, Bursten said.
The twisters knocked out power lines reduced other homes to piles of rubble.
One shelter is at the Kokomo Event and Conference Center.
Eight funnel clouds were spotted throughout the afternoon but it’s unclear how many touched down, according to Howard County authorities.
Utility companies reported more than 32,000 customers were without power statewide as of 9:15 p.m. Kokomo is about 50 miles north of Indianapolis.
The National Weather Service says at least eight tornadoes touched down on Wednesday causing substantial damage.

Pressed on whether he would clear his campaign schedule for the rest of the week, Pence said: “We’ll be here as long we need to be to make sure Hoosiers who have been impacted by these storms have what they need and have the support they need”.
