A view from maybe the worst seat at Bristol Motor Speedway

The group will be able to tell their children, grand-children- and anyone else who has an ear to hear- about being a part of the largest crowd EVER to witness a college football game in person when the Tennessee Volunteers face the Virginia Tech Hokies on the infield inside what many refer to as the ‘Colleseum’. He has performed at Bristol in front of 150,000 fans. “We were getting 50 bucks a game and thought we were rich”.

“We’re going to get our feet wet a little bit, in terms of the noise and the environment”, Baron added, “so when you get there, you get to the first play and your technique just kind of comes back and you realize that this is the same thing we’ve been doing in practice”. Three years later, it’s come to fruition with the help of BMS general manager Jerry Caldwell and Pilot Flying J as the lead sponsor.

With just a few days left until kickoff, the Hokies feel confident that they will be ready for battle, in front of the record breaking 150,000 rowdy fans.

UT coach Butch Jones and athletic director Dave Hart joined former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer and late athletic director Jim Weaver in embracing the Battle at Bristol.

And if you’re wondering why the schools and the speedway would go to all this trouble, SB Nation estimates that the game – while it might be “weird and awkward” to watch in person, and tough to see even the Colossus from the nosebleed seats – will make “a ton of money”. Yes, they will be playing football there and not racing.

Tyrod Taylor comes back to play quarterback. “Standout senior defensive end Ken Ekanem tacked on almost 20 pounds this offseason, and fellow end Vinny Mihota (6’5”, 264 lb.) spent time at defensive tackle early in his career before moving outside for good this spring. My first game in Knoxville was in 1989 when Tennessee beat Georgia. Harris had 138 total yards on just nine carries, including a 73-yard TD run.

Auburn 31, Arkansas State 7: The defense won’t let Arkansas State get much as the offense starts to settle in. Too often we see him throw the ball away when he has a receiver wide open down the field. With so much attention on BYU possibly joining the Big 12, the Cougars need to show they can win on a big stage, while Utah is trying to crack the AP Top 25 poll. Not only that, but they play at a scorching pace that accrued 89 offensive snaps against Liberty in week one. Run circles…at a NASCAR track…get it?! It may not have seemed like it at the time, but Cameron Sutton’s muffed punt early in the first quarter of last week’s game played a huge role in setting the tone for that game. That very well could be a long-term implication of this game. My hope is that the close call will light a fire under this Vol team and propel them into the season.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity that we have”, Hokies veteran defensive coordinator Bud Foster, the senior member of first-year coach Justin Fuentes’ staff, said of the a game that has national TV billing and is being hailed as a virtual holiday in the bordering states. (Are those tallboys? Think so, but I’m not sure.) From the above image, we can also deduce that Mountain Dew and Pepsi will feature prominently. I know this is a better team than what we saw last Thursday night.

Jones has been just as impressed with what he’s seen from Tech quarterback Jerod Evans as Foster has been with Dobbs.
