According to the report, the 62 year old worker, Jose Melena, was inside the 35 ft. cooker performing some maintenance work, when other workers dumped 12,000lbs of the canned food onto him before switching the cooker on.
The charred remains of the worker came into eye after another worker opened the cooker after two hours of cooking at the 130C.
Staffs at California’s Bumble Bee Foods plant later explained that they thought that Mr. Melena was in bathroom at that time, and believing everything was ok they switched the cooker on and this unfortunate incident happened.
Two of the company’s employees have now been charged with willfully ignoring safety rules. And the pair is due in court on May 27.
