A year of political pregame gives way to a sprint into Iowa
Will a Rubio-Cruz fight be bad for the GOP? The campaign did not release how much money it had on hand. Perhaps less so when push comes to shove. If Cruz keeps his momentum and becomes the nominee, the Republican Party will have a candidate who is against a new rapport with Cuba, against gun control, against universal healthcare, against same sex marriage… and so it goes.

Amid the rise of real-estate magnate Donald Trump – and, to a lesser extent, Sen.
The Republicans who have emerged as Trump’s chief rivals, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, had interesting beyond-the-Beltway careers pre-2008 (Rubio in the Florida legislature, Cruz in the Texas attorney general’s office) but emerged as national figures only after Obama’s inauguration. So far, however, that vote is scattered, with Rubio getting just 14.1 per cent in the Granite State (second to Trump’s 26.2 per cent).
Most seemed to believe the video was a fake, created with the intention of damaging Mr Trump.
“Those radical jihadists do not exist because of Donald Trump or any other campaign, they were going to be around no matter what because they have a radical ideology and they’re pursuing it violently around the world”, he said at an event in Milford, New Hampshire.
This suggests that reporting indicating that Cruz has wrapped up the support of Iowa Christian conservative leaders may have overstated the strength of his hold on that large faction of the Republican vote. For Trump to do well in the early primaries would ultimately be disastrous for the Republican Party. “The establishment would have to quickly unite behind whoever does best [next to Trump] in New Hampshire”.
And the adoring crowds that throng Trump’s monster rallies, what do they remind you of?
Currently, Mr. Trump, Mr. Cruz, Mr. Rubio, Mr. Carson, Mr. Bush and Mr. Christie make the cut.
The billionaire’s support has softened in Iowa, and a skirmish in New Hampshire with an influential conservative newspaper could scramble the race.
I’ve probably forgotten some additional claims I made that were mistaken, and until the primaries and caucuses play out we won’t know if many of my other contentions are accurate or way off. But the three I mentioned? “We are excited about the massive Jeb army that will be spreading his message to voters on the ground in the February states and beyond”.
Others seemingly have new campaigns in the New Year.
There is no such clarity in the Republican race. The Kasich campaign responded by aggressively mocking Bush.
His team says the campaign is gaining energy.
Among those feeling the heat: Santorum, who has failed to produce the kind of excitement that propelled him to that Iowa victory four years ago. Reached for comment, a spokeswoman for Trump’s campaign would only say that Cohen, who came under fire last summer for saying marital rape was legal and threatening to ruin a reporter’s life, “is not a representative of the campaign”. But now Rubio is starting to draw more fire on immigration and missing votes in the Senate.

Bush’s super PAC unveiled a scathing ad that hit Rubio for missing national-security hearings in the wake of recent terror attacks in order to attend fundraisers. There is no mass push to get everyone out to vote. Christie said, “This president is a petulant child whenever he can’t get what he wants”.
