AAP expects more dirt till Goa, Punjab polls

After targeting the fishing and the mining community in Goa, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with an eye to the upcoming state polls in 2017, added its focus to the slum dwellers of the state when Delhi’s health and PWD minister Satyendar Jain visited the slums in Camarabhat and Zuarinagar on Sunday.

The selection process of the candidates began with the constituency level volunteer team proposing names of candidates who then filled a candidature form with all relevant personal details. AAP should be able to announce all its candidates by October, he said. These names were subsequently screened by a State-level committee before being finalised. The announcement was made by AAP leader Dr Oscar Rebello in Goa.

A civil engineer with an M.S. from the University of Texas at Austin, US, Mr. Valmiki Naik has been a vocal anti-corruption campaigner for Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement. He is credited with building the party from scratch in Shiroda.

The political affairs committee of AAP cleared these four names on Monday night, for contesting election to the 40-member state legislative assembly, scheduled to be conducted at the beginning of next year.

Mr. Rane is a trade union leader and a qualified lawyer by profession.

The party also said that it will implement mohalla clinic in Goa. Until recently, he headed the Shiv Sena’s Goa unit.
