In yet another setback to Aam Aadmi Party, tax officials have claimed that party legislator Kartar Singh Tanwar allegedly hid assets worth Rs 130 crore.

Party leader Dilip Pandey had broken the news of the raid, tweeting out, “Just in: Income Tax raid on Chhatarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar”.
Rubbishing the allegations, Tanwar said that it is a political conspiracy against him by BJP-led Central government.
The department has already seized unaccounted cash and jewellery of almost Rs 1 crore from Tanwar and his brother.
Tanwar came under the IT Department’s notice when he bought a farmhouse and made the complete payment in cash.
Moreover, they found various documents showing unaccounted properties, whose value is being assessed. IT is now conducting an investigation. He is a first time-MLA. He joined AAP after the BJP made a decision to field a relative of his as its candidate from Chhatarpur in last year’s assembly elections.
– Tanwar floated more than 30 fictitious companies to show transactions. He is a developer and sells plots in the Chhatarpur and Bhati area. IT sources say that all the transactions were done in cash. It has been alleged that no tax was paid on this amount as there was no record of it. Tanwar was not paying stamp duty and registration fee on huge land transactions.
Immediately after the raids were conducted, deputy CM Manish Sisodia had said in July, “Modiji, you deploy the CBI, Delhi police, IB, ED and Income Tax, but we will keep doing our work”.

The Centre, meanwhile, denied AAP’s allegations of a witch-hunt and stated that lawmakers indulging in illegal acts will be brought to book.
