Reportedly, the court said, “If you are a responsible citizen, then don’t run away”.

Bharti had just lately moved the apex courtroom looking for safety from arrest in the case and a path to restrain Delhi Police from arresting him until his plea hard the High Court order is set.

“Delhi Police is right in saying that Bharti is behaving like a professional criminal”, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said. Mr Kejriwal’s admonition in public tweets indicated that he had all but dumped his once powerful minister and close aide, a man whom he had strongly defended in the past despite a controversial midnight raid targeting African women.

Bharti faces arrest in connection with an attempt to murder and domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika. The two got married in 2010, while Mitra had also accused her lawmaker husband of trying to kill her and ordered his dog to bite her when she was pregnant.

The apex court bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu and Justice Amitabha Roy added that the matter would be heard again on October 1 after he surrendered.
