IronPigs reliever Frank Hermann was recalled by the Phillies, who sent lefty Elvis Araujo down to the ‘Pigs.

The UCL is the ligament that keeps the arm bones together, and the Platelet-Rich Plasma injection Nola received is used to speed up the healing process.

As this time, surgery is not being discussed for the righthander, general manager Matt Klentak said. For right now, they’re focused on getting him healthy heading into the offseason and ready for spring training.

Dr. James Andrews examined Nola on Monday in Alabama. He first felt the discomfort in his final game, a five-inning outing July 28 in Atlanta where he allowed three runs.

“Right now nobody is suggesting that surgery is the way to go on this, and we feel good about the fact that there’s a consensus among all the doctors that have seen him”, Klentak said. Nola figured he probably wouldn’t pitch again this season following the initial diagnosis and was relieved he doesn’t need surgery.

“Before the last game, everything felt good”, Nola said. Just overall my body felt really good leading up to that.

Despite ending his year struggling, Nola doesn’t believe the injury was related to the drop in his performance during that stretch. On June 5, he had a 2.65 ERA through twelve starts and was considered to be the Phillies’ best ambassador for the NL All-Star team.
