Abandoned vehicle prompts evacuation at New York airport

AN AIRPORT terminal in NY has been evacuated after a man reportedly parked a truck in front of a terminal and reportedly ran off.

U.S. authorities reopened a terminal at LaGuardia Airport in NY on Friday after an abandoned vehicle prompted its evacuation, media reported.

Terminal B was evacuated around 11:30 p.m.as Port Authority police began looking into the vehicle.

The NYPD bomb squad responded to the scene and found that the vehicle was safe, reopening the terminal after the almost hour-long lockdown, a report in ABC 7 said.

Bomb Squad swept the area and said the vehicle was deemed safe.

A law enforcement officer was quoted in the media as saying that an unidentified person drove the vehicle up to the terminal, jumped out of the auto and ran away. Photos also showed passengers standing or walking outside the terminal.

UPDATE 12:47 a.m.: Travelers in Terminal B report that the “all clear” has been given and they are being permitted to leave.

The terminal was evacuated and traffic was diverted while the investigation was ongoing.
