ABC Orders Pilot For Sitcom Based On Gimlet Media’s ‘StartUp’ Podcast
The podcast followed GIMLET founder ALEX BLUMBERG’s odyssey in launching the podcast network. The new series has reportedly received a put pilot commitment from ABC, per Deadline. In addition to starring in the pilot, Braff will direct it as well.

Davis Entertainment has comedy Dr. Ken at ABC, one of four broadcast series the company has on the air next season along with dramas Timeless, The Blacklist and spinoff The Blacklist: Redemption on NBC.
Now Braff will return to his TV roots for a new single-camera comedy that will see him reunite with Scrubs co-executive producer Matt Tarses. Blumberg chronicles starting his own business, and the plot of the series is similar.
Scrubs managed to capture the hearts and amusing bones of millions of people, and I’m happy to see ABC, Tarses, and Braff reuniting for this new series. He’ll experience “the good, the bad and the ugly” of this new venture with his wife and two kids.
Tarses and Braff executive produce with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox as well as Gimlet Media’s Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber. He left that series before its disappointing final season. Braff will direct the potential pilot. No word yet on who will be penning the series, but the showrunners can always have Braff wear yet another hat, as he’s had copious writing experience with his break-out movie Garden State and Kickstarter-funded Wish I Was Here.
