ABC7’s Larry Beil: Chip Kelly hire is ‘bold move’ by 49ers
Davis also called out a follower who was critical of Kelly, as well as the 49ers faithful, saying: “Our fans need to be getting in shape too”.

Kelly’s statement said he realizes “the high standards and expectations that this position demands and I embrace the challenges ahead”.
Chip Kelly found a new employer on Thursday.
Let’s be direct: It’s unlikely that Kelly was Baalke’s top recommendation or even somebody Baalke wanted York to seriously consider.
The last thing the 49ers want is another Jim Harbaugh: a successful coach with a strong personality and opinions.
Also, Cam Inman reported today that the 49ers as of yet have not communicated anything about Kelly or their hopes for Kaepernick to the QB. “He is an extremely driven individual that I look forward to working with”, said San Francisco General Manager Trent Baalke.
In San Francisco, Kelly will take over for recently fired Jim Tomsula, who was sacked after just one season in charge.
“I think Chip Kelly is the kind of coach that can resurrect his career”, Turlock resident Fred Patino said.
Chip Kelly was hired to coach the 49ers Thursday in a move that does not surprise many.
Australian fans will be waiting to see whether he has any interest in retaining and giving an opportunity to Jarryd Hayne, while United States fans will wonder whether he can revive the form of quarterback Colin Kaepernick, whose star dropped so dramatically this season that he was benched for back-up Blaine Gabbert.
Although it has been three years since Kelly coached the ducks, he still holds a big presence around town. Kelly led the Philadelphia Eagles, which ranked third in the National Football League in points per game.
In three seasons with the Eagles, Kelly went 26-21. The power he coveted in Philly ultimately became his undoing as he made poor personnel decision after poor personnel decision and took a talent laden roster to mediocrity pretty quickly.

On Jan. 4, a day after firing Tomsula shortly after the season-finale overtime win against St. Louis, York vowed to bring the 49ers back to prominence. That could allow Kelly to focus only on coaching. And, they didn’t get him either after Coughlin withdrew his name from consideration.
