“As far as the President is concerned, corruption has no political party, no religion and no ethnic group”.

ABUJA – Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered ministries to use only approved government bank accounts to make payments, the vice president’s office said on Sunday, part of a drive to improve transparency and clamp down on corruption. Public officials and other leaders accused of corruption by relevant agencies should plead their innocence, not malice. The President has also reaffirmed the need for this committee to continue, and the global committee has very much welcomed the contributions of the committee.

Only $400 million of the loan granted by the Export-Import Bank of China to build a rail track from Nigeria’s two largest cities, Lagos and Kano, still remained at the finance ministry, Buhari’s office said in an e-mailed statement after a meeting with the permanent secretary of the transport ministry.

“The President remains wholly committed to fulfilling that promise and will not be deterred from the relentless prosecution of the war against corruption because he remains convinced that, as he has said, “unless Nigeria kills corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria”.

A report by Sahara Reporters had claimed Jonathan was in the villa to study the body language of Buhari, due to his government’s decision to probe the Jonathan’s administration. The Federal Government led by President Buhari does not give them instructions regarding their daily operations.

The ex-President also claimed to be unaware of the alleged corrupt practices and mismanagement of funds under his administration.

The National Peace Committee, formed before the 2015 general elections, was granted permission by the President to transform to a National Peace Council.

“President Buhari also wishes to re-assure all Nigerians that his administration will not discriminate against individuals or groups in the performance of its duties and that favours or patronage will not be dispensed on the basis of votes. Unfortunately, the negative effect of this anomaly, which has taken a huge toll on the country’s economy and the welfare of Nigerians, will be with us in the coming years”.
