Aberdeen had issued a statement on Wednesday to reassure fans that the rumours of McInnes’s departure were “without substance or foundation”.

The bookies then installed the Dons gaffer as a 4/1 front runner to replace Gordon Strachan in the Scotland dugout.

But the 44-year-old is adamant that he is going nowhere – and blasted the conduct of the Scottish Professional Football League’s main backer.

‘I was baffled by the whole thing, it was freakish, ‘ he added.

“But I really was baffled by it. When you look back on it in the cold light of day, then people have got to have a responsibility to act better”. Social media is what it is. I was getting texts and calls about it.

“But I think for the main sponsors to be involved in instigating a lot of it is disappointing”.

The Pittodrie club contacted the SPFL at directorial level on Thursday to express their concerns at the ongoing practice – 24 hours after feeling the need to release a statement quelling speculation about their manager’s immediate future.

‘I don’t think it’s helpful, they don’t help managers in that situation, ‘ he stated.

‘It brings an unnecessary spotlight and pressure on managers. He said: “It’s hard to stop because if it wasn’t Ladbrokes it would be another company, but Alex was right to speak out on behalf of the managers because the job is hard enough”.

“It is something which isn’t helpful”.

It is the first time in McInnes’ two-and-a-half years at Pittodrie that the Reds have lost three successive games.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has been named the Ladbrokes Premiership Manager of the Month for September.

But he insists Wednesday’s events will not distract him from his task.

“I’m not saying I’m 100 per cent watertight but I am in a secure position here”.

“But we have long-term aims and this is my club”.

“This is my club and I’ve committed to a four-year deal”.

“Derek is fully focused on preparing the squad for our important match against Ross County on Friday evening”.

Premiership leaders Aberdeen were shocked 5-1 by St Johnstone in their last outing. “It’s been horrendous. You just get so used to playing that you start taking it for granted that you are playing every week”, said Reynolds. Customers ask us to quote prices and we’re just proving a service they want.
