Abhijeet Bhattacharya was arrested for abusing women last month
Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya was arrested last month by the Mumbai police in connection with a case of abusing a woman online, said police. He has also been asked to shut his Twitter handle or delete abusive tweets by the police. The Mumbai Police confirmed that the singer was arrested by the BKC cyber police and also released on bail soon after the arrest since he was arrested in a bailable offence.

Menon complained to the cyber cell of Mumbai police after the singer abused journalist Swati Chaturvedi on twitter. I am really glad that they called him for questioning and arrested him on 26 July. Police have contacted Twitter India to know the exact contents of his offensive tweets. This is a big victory against online abuse.
According to the information provided by her, the singer’s phone has been confiscated by the police and sent for forensic examination. Despite my repeated pleas, they were reluctant to register and transfer the FIR to Mumbai. Menon had tweeted to the police commissioner about the singer’s use of obscene language on social media towards the woman journalist. And, this is when Abhijeet targeted Swati Chaturvedi.
“This gives us confidence to carry on with the campaign against those who indulge in crimes against women as jantakareporter.com takes a dim view of such acts”.

It all began with the reactions on social media after an Infosys techie, Swathi was killed in Chennai.
