About 20 demonstrators arrested outside of Trump rally in California

Trump, fresh off a sweep of five Northeastern primaries, is courting California voters hoping to lock up the Republican nomination with the state’s June 7 primary.

There are massive protests outside of a Donald Trump rally in Costa Mesa, Ca., and the situation is tense, CBS News’ Sopan Deb reports.

They smashed the window of a police vehicle, marched in protest and blocked traffic as police in riot gear tried to disperse the crowd outside of Trump’s speech venue.

Police in riot gear and on horseback pushed the crowd back and away from the venue.

A Los Angeles Times reporter posted a photo on Twitter of a man wearing a Trump T-shirt with a bloodied face.

Earlier in the evening, a half-dozen anti-Trump protesters taunted those waiting to get into the venue.

The Republican candidate reiterated a controversial promise on Thursday to build a wall along the Mexico-US border if he is elected president in order to stem the flow of illegal migrants into America. “They have set up a line and told protesters not to cross it”.

Trump has drawn large crowds across the country as he has campaigned for the White House and some of his events have been marred by incidents both inside and outside these venues.

Several protesters were captured on video throwing rocks at passing cars, one was recorded jumping up and down on the roof of a cop vehicle, and-according to the Associated Press-at least one scuffled with a Trump supporter who was trying to drive away from the rally, leaving the man’s face bloodied. Trump was not present. The Pacific Amphitheatre was filled to its capacity of about 18,000 and many hundreds more were turned away.

Trump put the number even higher, at over 31,000. “This thing about him being racist?”

After the rally, Trump heads to the state’s Republican convention in Burlingame, in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
