Anton Yelchin’s role in the Star Trek movies will not be recast following his death, producer JJ Abrams has said. “There is someone missing tonight”.
“There’s something wrong tonight”, said Star Trek Beyond’s producer, J.J. Abrams, 50, said at the film’s Comic-Con premiere on July 20, per Buzzfeed.
BTS footage screened in the prelude to the screening sold the film as fun and full of heart, but the mood was an odd mix of sober and joyful, due to the recent tragic loss of star Anton Yelchin. “Anton Yelchin should be here”.
“This is for Anton Yelchin – a lovely dear colleague and friend”.
J.J. Abrams thinks Anton Yelchin “deserves better” than for his Star Trek character to be recast. “We love their son and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend, Anton”.
Here’s the earlier announcement regarding Star Trek 4.
Quinto also paid tribute to the actor who originated the iconic role of Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy – who passed away past year just before production began.
“I would say there’s no replacing him”, he told Postmedia Network. Join us in a conversation about world events, the newsgathering process or whatever aspect of the news universe you find interesting or important.

The actor was tragically killed as the film entered the busiest pre-release marketing period for Star Trek Beyond, and the film is dedicated to him, quite rightly. As for whether or not the script will write in the character’s death, he added, “I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it”.
