Abrams pays tribute to Yelchin at Star Trek premiere

The Star Trek Beyond premiere at San Diego Comic-Con was both a spectacularly exciting event yet also incredibly sad. Abrams STAR TREK to reprise his role of Spock, there was the question of whether William Shatner would be joining him as Captain Kirk.

“I would say there’s no replacing him”, Abrams told the Toronto Sun.

“Obviously it’s Star Trek, almost anything is possible”, said Abrams. “The thing was to make sure that everybody who has been here for 50 years gets what they deserve in terms of a good “Star Trek” film, but the people who perhaps aren’t as familiar with ‘Star Trek, ‘ they’re welcome too“.

“English was perhaps his first language, then he learned another language, and then he had to redesign his brain to speak English again so we had to think about how the voice was going to work”, the actor said.

Yelchin voices the lead role of Jim in the upcoming animated TV series Trollhunters alongside Kelsey Grammer and Ron Perlman. At a screening of Star Trek Beyond at the White House on Wednesday, she introduced Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and Karl Urban and promptly wigged out for a second.

Speaking of big summer blockbusters, Star Trek Beyond is indeed joining the list of movies that will be shown in IMAX, per the official IMAX website.

Anton, who played Starship Enterpise crewmember Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, passed away last month (Jun16) aged 27 after a freak auto accident outside his Los Angeles home.

Director Justin Lin is known for the first four films in the Fast and Furious franchise, so it’s no surprise that this is the most action-packed installment of the rebooted film series.

Star Trek 4 has officially been announced with Chris Hemsworth returning as George Kirk. “Once we landed on the idea of moving out from underneath his father’s shadow, that made a lot of sense”.

But before the film began, the cast paid tribute to their late costar Anton Yelchin.
