The England worldwide came off the bench to score twice in the Reds’ 5-0 dismantling of Championship side Burton Albion in the EFL Cup despite being utilised on the right wing by Klopp.
“Of course it’s more hard for me to play wide because I am a centre-forward”, Sturridge said. Of course he can play there, but in the decisive moments, he needs to be involved in all the finishing situations.
“In the modern-day game you have to try and be flexible, but everyone knows my best position”.
According to Klopp, Emre Can (ankle) and Origi (cramp) are doubts for the match at White Hart Lane. That’s not saying I am happy to do it.
DANIEL STURRIDGE HAS expressed his frustration at being asked to play out of position by Jurgen Klopp, but accepts he has ‘to do the job for the team’.
“I have to do a job for the team”.
Daniel Sturridge was stationed out wide by Klopp in Liverpool’s line-up against Burnley and Burton Albion while Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi started up front in respective games. That’s saying I have got to do a job for the team.
“The players really skilled in finishing situations, you have them in and around the box”.
Klopp has revealed that the issue doesn’t look to be too serious but he’s expected to miss the Spurs game because Liverpool will be cautious with the injury as the German global has been plagued by ankle problems in recent years. We still have to work on a lot of things. These positions should have been filled up by full-backs or players from other positions.
Klopp insisted Sturridge hadn’t spoken to him about his concerns over the role he’s been asked to operate in. When Daniel for example plays as the No.9, in the centre, and just stays there – that makes no sense.
“Daniel is a very smart player in hiding himself in positions where it is not easy to defend and it is very often in a wing position”.

“When he is not involved any more in defending you need a smart striker who takes the centre-half and moves them into a position where they don’t feel comfortable”.
