“All I can say is he has been arrested and will be appearing on Monday at 10:00 (22:00 GMT Sunday) in the Tauranga District Court”, Mr Tuck told the AFP news agency.

Former AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd sits in the dock as he awaits sentencing at the District Court in Tauranga on July 9, 2015.

Bay of Plenty Police told ONE News that “because of the sensitivity around the case” it was best to refer to Rudd’s lawyer.

It is understood prostitutes were present at Rudd’s home at the time of his arrest.

Rudd’s lawyer Craig Tuck confirmed the arrest but refused to elaborate.

Neighbours said they did not hear anything out of the ordinary on Saturday night or notice any police vehicles, although one added foul weather would have masked any noise from next door.

“I am not making any further comment at all on the matter”.

Judge Ingram also remarked that home detention had been his sole alternative to sending Rudd to jail.

He was arrested last November and charged with attempting to procure a murder, threatening to kill and possession of drugs.
