Marital drama 45 Years equalled Mad Max’s tally of three awards, including British/Irish film of the year and honours for Courtenay and Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling, who was named actress of the year.

Soon after Thursday’s Academy Awards list was revealed, criticism of the lack of actors of colour among the nominations emerged, with last year’s hashtag #OscarsSoWhite revived. Eight movies will reportedly vie for Best Picture, including “Spotlight”, a film about Boston Globe’s coverage of sexual harassment of children by religious leaders. The Force Awakens might have received five nominations which include, Best Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, and Score – but there’s no nod for production design, costume, and best picture.

“Carol”, the film about a lesbian relationship in 1950s NY, picked up acting nods for stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara but didn’t receive nominations for picture or directing.

The actor, who has also been nominated for his acting roles in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator and Blood Diamond, said it is unlikely he would ever make a physically grueling film like The Revenant again.

Some were outraged that Sylvester Stallone – widely seen as a sentimental favorite – was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Creed instead of Michael.

While some were disappointed with Oscar’s decision of not including some of films and actors, fans will still watch the awarding of winners. “We were not expecting it to get that many nominations”.
