ACC removes all 2016-17 neutral-site championship events from North Carolina
“We’re interested in all of the NCAA championships as well as the ACC championships that we have facilities to house those events”, said Rick Catlett, President and CEO of the Jacksonville Sports Council.

North Carolina’s loss could be Kennesaw State’s gain.
The ACC has also made a decision to move the baseball, golf, tennis, swimming and diving, women’s soccer, and women’s basketball championships, all of which were scheduled to be played in various cities in North Carolina.
If it’s not, chances are slim for the Cards to host any of the remaining NCAA championships because women’s lacrosse is a no-go, women’s golf hits derby weekend, and there are serious concerns about low attendance of hosting the women’s soccer championship at Lynn Stadium. “Stop playing the blame game and clean up this mess you’ve made of our state, because we can not afford to wait any longer”. HB2 was signed into law this year by Gov. More than 20 states are challenging the federal government on restroom use by transgender people.
The law, known as House Bill 2, was approved by the GOP-led legislature in March in response to Charlotte’s approval of an anti-discrimination ordinance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people at hotels, restaurants and retailers. Proponents of HB2 say it protects bathroom privacy.
Swofford said the league is still in the early stages of identifying replacement sites.
In April, Martinez had canceled a planned speech to North Carolina Republicans due to what she described at the time as a scheduling conflict – not the uproar over the bathroom law. The NBA moved its 2017 All-Star game out of Charlotte, and entertainers such as Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Ringo Starr have canceled shows in North Carolina.
The NCAA pulled seven championship events, including a men’s basketball regional in Greensboro, from the state for the same reason Monday, citing “a commitment to fairness and inclusion”.
And now the ACC, which is headquartered in Greensboro, is doing the same.
“The ACC presidents engaged in a constructive, wide-ranging and vigorous discussion of this complex issue over the past two days”, Clements said. “Every one of our 15 universities is strongly committed to these values and therefore, we will continue to host ACC championships at campus sites (the ACC has four North Carolina-based schools: Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina and North Carolina State)”.
Malvin Williams-Tyson, while shopping for Florid State University gear at Gator, Seminole Knight Fever in Orlando, told Channel 9 she wants the ACC championship to be in Orlando.

The ACC will now move quickly to find alternate out-of-state locations and announce the relevant details for all eight impacted championship events in order to allow member institutions to make travel arrangements accordingly.
