Accelerite announces agreement to acquire Citrix CloudPlatform

Persistent Systems’ U.S. subsidiary has signed an agreement with Citrix Systems International GMBH, a Swiss subsidiary of Citrix Systems, Inc., to acquire the Citrix CloudPlatform and CloudPortal Business Manager product lines in an asset purchase transaction.

The deal, which is expected to close this quarter, follows Citrix’s announcement late a year ago that it aimed to simplify its business, offloading businesses that weren’t directly related to the vendor’s enterprise strategy. CloudPlatform is powered by Apache CloudStack and is created to orchestrate both traditional enterprise and cloud-native application workloads within a single unified cloud management platform. CloudStack has been marginalized in the industry, mostly by the ascendance of OpenStack, an open source competitor which has gained dominance in the hybrid cloud space. By shedding the GoTo business and now the CloudPlatform business, Citrix is focusing on its core application virtualization product lines, most notably the healthy NetScaler and XenServer. The new 7.7 XenDesktop release is a product of collaboration between Citrix and Microsoft and it promises new cloud provisioning and collaboration options.

“Cloud infrastructure software is one of the three pillars of Accelerite”.

Citrix has sold off its two cloud management products CloudPlatform and CloudPortal Business Manager to Persistent Systems-owned Accelerite, a company that deals in cloud backup and recovery-as-a-service.
