USA prosecutors have formally charged Ahmad Rahami, the suspect who was arrested after weekend bombings in NY and New Jersey in which 29 people were injured.

– The Afghan immigrant arrested in the bombings that rocked a New York City neighborhood and a New Jersey shore town is now facing attempted murder charges over his dramatic capture.

But the agency determined that he was “clean” and did not place him on a watch list.

After Rahami’s arrest, a handwritten journal was recovered from Rahami that spouted anti-American sentiments. During their conversations, he referred to his son as a terrorist, law enforcement sources told United States media.

She is cooperating with investigators, according to the source. It is unclear whether the younger Rahami was interviewed at the time.

The agency is now focusing on Ahmad Rahami’s trips to Afghanistan and Pakistan as it attempts to determine the motive behind the bombings, and whether he received training in bomb-making overseas.

He married a Pakistani woman in 2011. They told her she had to wait until the baby was born and obtain travel documents for the child.

His wife, Asia Bibi Rahami, reportedly left the U.S. days before the attack, and the authorities have contacted their counterparts in the UAE and Pakistan to try to speak to her.

He reportedly spent three months in jail but was never prosecuted.

Rahami’s father also briefly spoke to the media on Tuesday morning and reiterated that he had told the Federal Bureau of Investigation of his son’s radical leanings.

A New Jersey mayor says an Afghan-American man sought in connection with a bombing that wounded more than two dozen people in NY has been arrested in Linden, New Jersey. Investigators are now looking through his notebook, and learning more about his history.

On the brief court form, the woman indicated that she was requesting full custody of the child because the “defendant has been charged with police attempted murder and is now under protective services after possible terrorist related activity in NYC”. Authorities said Officers Angel Padilla and Pete Hammer, both with the Linden police force, have been released from the hospital.

The Union County prosecutor’s office said Rahami is also facing second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for an unlawful objective following a confrontation with police in Linden, N.J., on Monday.

Authorities took custody of the 28-year-old, but Rahami and at least one officer sustained injuries.
