The Taiwanese company Acer doesn’t seem to be in a better position than Starbreeze as they haven’t shown any growth in their annual sales since 2010.

StarVR was announced by Starbreeze a year ago and became the latest entrant in a busy headset scene that’s led by Facebook’s Oculus, Sony’s PlayStation VR and HTC’s Vive.
This morning the folks at Starbreeze and Acer announced that they’d joined forces to bring their own virtual reality headset to the world.
According to the duo, it’s looking to tap the “professional- and location-based entertainment market”.
“Since our launch in June 2015, we have had an awesome start with StarVR”, Bo Andersson Klint, CEO of Starbreeze, said in a statement.
The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive may be dominating the conversation when it comes to high-end virtual reality, but Acer is set to make a big splash with StarVR. The two companies are “devoting” resources across several matters of VR’s ecosystem in order to achieve coherent and high-quality experience.
Compared to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, whose field of view is 110 degrees, StarVR was created to have a 210-degree field of view – significantly wider than the others, or any other headsets out there. Starbreeze launched StarVR with a VR-experience at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June 2015, gained by teaming up with French Infinite Eye.
Canalys believes that competition in the VR market is bound to heat up in the coming years and by the end of 2016, China will lead the market with 40% of total VR headset shipments. When first announced it promised much, including a massive 210 degree field of view, 5k resolution and positional tracking.
This means that we can expect a lot of new entrants in the VR market, in terms of both hardware and content. More importantly, Acer knows computers.
