Activision Blizzard generated $1.57 billion in revenues durings its second quarter. “The success of Overwatch, our newest franchise, is a testament to this talent”. Profit was $127 million, or 17 cents a share, down about 40% from $212 million a year ago. But more importantly, in the past two months since launch, we’ve already provided some great content to the Overwatch community including a competitive play mode, a new hero, the recently launched Summer Games content, which drove record engagement yesterday as well as customization items. The earnings results still topped consensus estimates among financial analysts.
In terms of Monthly Active Users, Activision Blizzard as a whole had 491 million in the quarter. In total, Overwatch’s global revenue is around $500 million.
Overwatch’s official Twitter account confirmed the news, later detailed in a press release from the publisher.
“Overwatch” widely displaced Riot Games “League of Legends” as the most popular game in South Korean Internet cafes – a popular hangout for gamers there – Activision Blizzard said, citing data from research firm Gametrics. Watch when the launching of “Overwatch World Cup” debuts at the upcoming BlizzCon 2016; imagine how much revenue it will rack up, once the event begins. This puts Overwatch ahead of Diablo 3 when it comes to being the fastest-selling PC game in China. The Activision Publishing division had 49 million monthly users, up 11%.
Currently, according to the Game Informer, Blizzard Activision normally sets the record at $1.57 billion dollars during this quarter; and that’s all of Blizzard’s games put together.
