Activists From Chicago Blamed for Violent Milwaukee Protests

The mayor of a city dealing with unrest in one of its inner city neighborhoods is telling some of its young citizens they must be home at 10 p.m. on weekdays. “You can’t tell when the officer discharges his firearm”, Flynn said Sunday, USA Today reported.

About six people were arrested in the early evening on Monday, city officials said, but the atmosphere appeared to have changed following two days of standoffs between unruly and sometimes violent demonstrators and police.

Cars stand burned in the lot of the BP gas station after rioters clashed with police in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 14, 2016.

The incident comes amid renewed anger over the fatal shooting of several young African Americans by police around the United States in recent weeks. Officers used an armored vehicle to retrieve the injured man and take him to a hospital. On Sunday, officers were injured by protesters hurling objects and chunks of concrete. Three police cruisers had their windows shattered and one privately owned vehicle was torched, the chief said.

“Most people in the position of those police would be chasing after the rioters, arresting as many people as they can”, says Mr. Bueermann, who says he experienced similar situations early in his career as a patrol officer in Redlands, Calif.

Governor Scott Walker put the National Guard on standby on Sunday, but so far no Guard members have been deployed.

But they were not called to the areas of the latest disturbances.

The man, whose name has not been released, was shot late Sunday during a demonstration to protest the killing of a black man by a police officer a day earlier.

Individuals attending the rally fired dozens of shots, apparently in the air.

Trump already had stops planned Tuesday in Eau Claire and Milwaukee before Saturday’s fatal shooting of 23-year-old Sylville K. Smith.

Police say they are seeking suspects in the shooting. “I do, however, hope people will give law enforcement the respect that they deserve for working so hard to keep us safe”.

Their word is not enough for Smith’s sister.

“You have chosen an incredible path”, he said.

“I lost my brother. Don’t be going around with big guns, don’t be going around shooting each other and letting them shoot y’all cause that’s just what they’re doing and they’re out to destroy us and we’re falling for it”, Smith said.

Police had stopped Smith’s vehicle, leading to the chase on foot.

A police spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the condition of the person who was shot Sunday night.

Barrett said a still image from the video “demonstrates, without question, that he had a gun in his hand”.

“What happened. may not have been right, and I am not justifying that, but no one can deny the fact that there are problems, racial problems in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that need to be rectified”, Rainey said.

Flynn and others have said the man whose death touched off the violent protests was shot after he turned toward an officer with a gun in his hand.

Fearing for his safety, he was now staying with relatives out of town.

The police shooting took place Saturday after a traffic stop due to alleged suspicious behavior.

“This system sees police wantonly murdering people as part of the normal order of things”, Dix said.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett held a news conference Sunday, saying he’d seen a still from the officer’s bodycam that clearly showed that Sylville Smith was armed and facing the officer when he was shot by police.

The mayor said four officers had been taken to the hospital, but all had been released.
