Actors and filmmakers react to Golden Globe nominations
Now that the Golden Globe nominees have been announced, films like “Carol” and “Spotlight” have cemented themselves as awards season frontrunners, while movies like “Mad Max: Fury Road” have had their awards season chances boosted by snagging major nods. In the Comedy category, Joy, Spy’and The Martian won nominations. Both “Outlander”, with its European setting and cast, and “Mr. Robot”, an edgy, cinematic drama beloved by TV geeks, are typical of the worthy but more out-there choices often made by the HFPA, which previous year awarded Showtime’s “The Affair” best drama series (but failed to even nominate it this time around).

Blanchett, already a double Oscar victor, is being considered an Academy award front-runner in the best actress category for her performance in the Todd Haynes-directed film, which is based on the best-selling novel “The Price of Salt”. Director Alejandro Inarritu followed up his Oscar-winning film Birdman with this year’s The Revenant.
“Game of Thrones”, a top victor at this year’s Emmys, received only one nomination- the best television drama series. The film was also nominated for best screenplay and the movie’s director, Tom McCarthy, received a nod. “To be named in such honorable company – especially since Room is my first feature film – is a startling delight”, Donoghue told ABC in a statement.
“Instead we see “Room” and ‘Spotlight, ‘ little indie movies, and that is sending a strong message to Hollywood that measurement does not matter they usually might should attempt more durable”. For the SAG Awards, “Carol” actress Mara and “Girl” actress Alicia Vikander were nominated in the supporting category, but those behind the Globes put them in the lead actress category.
Amy Schumer picked up a best actress in a comedy nomination for her performance in Trainwreck.
Oscar victor Eddie Redmayne is in the hunt for Best Actor in a Drama for “The Danish Girl”.
Critics are predicting that DiCaprio will finally take home his first Oscar for his role in the latter, an American biographical epic set in the 1800s and inspired by legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass.
The true outlier in the drama series category is “Narcos”, Netflix’s drama series about the rise of Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel.
Much like cable TV series steadily began to steal the spotlight from broadcast offerings in the early 2000s, online TV series are beginning to show their own muscle. Al Pacino (“Danny Collins”), Maggie Smith (“The Lady in the Van”), Lily Tomlin (“Grandma”), Jane Fonda (“Youth”) and Helen Mirren (“Trumbo”) all earned nods.

Streaming series from Netflix, Amazon and Hulu dominated the TV side of the Globes, which scattered nominations across the dial. Six shows tied for the most nominations at three: “Fargo”, “Mr. Robot”, “Outlander”, “Transparent”, “American Crime” and “Wolf Hall”. Up to date: 22:59 EST, 10 December 2015 It’s award season within the Gaga household.
