The 22-year-old actress, who plays Sinead O’Connor, was only celebrating four months ago that, in agreement with Channel 4 bosses, she had signed another one-year deal to continue her stint on the series.

Soap fans took to Twitter to speak of their shock at the news, and many demanded an explanation from show bosses.

However a spokeswoman for the show has said: “Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks“.

An insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Stephanie was on her final warning and show bosses decided enough was enough”.

“Buy your cup of coffee and enjoy every sip of it. Go to work, make that money, and learn something new in the process. I’ve kind of grown up here, which has been mental”. And let every choice you make be a brick in the foundation of rebuilding yourself.’.

The character of Sinead was introduced in 2010, along with on-screen stepmum Diane, father Rob and brother Finn.

No further information has been released on why Davis has been suddenly axed from the show but it has been reported that she will not film any more episodes and her character will ultimately leave Hollyoaks for good.

Davis rose to fame on the BBC talent contest Over the Rainbow, where hopefuls competed to get the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. In fact just a year ago she was nominated for the Best Actress and Best Dramatic Performance categories at the British Soap Awards.
