Ad hoc committee to pick final public protector candidate
She says Adv Mkhwebane was an excellent candidate in that she handled herself very well and did not break under pressure and scrutiny.

Last week, the committee whittled the 14 remaining candidates down to five.
The five candidates are Judges Siraj Desai and Sharise Weiner, advocates Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Muvhango Lukhaimane, and Professor Bongani Majola.
Mkhwebane, who was relatively unknown when interviewed for the post, was backed by all parties except the DA.
Breytenbach said she could not get an answer why she changed a job as a high-flying director in home affairs to a low-level job at the State Security Agency.
She said she was able to do the job because she had experience in both the public sector and had run her own company. One would hope that someone with a state security background she is not going to want to pivot to secrecy.
However he also expressed concern, saying he had received a tip-off that she was President Jacob Zuma’s preferred candidate.
“We are appointing her to a well-established institution, with rules and established practices and investigators, and if she tries any shenanigans, the institution itself will expose her for who she is”, he said.
MPs were full of praise of her performance during the interview two weeks ago.
The ACDP’s Steve Swart said he too had concerns regarding Mkhwebane’s move to become an SSA analyst but she had the “broadest degree of consensus across political lines”.
Mkhwebane’s name will be put before the National Assembly before the end of this month.
The IFP’s Msimang, who nominated her said he was patting himself on the back, because she had proved to be a woman of “guts” who had given an impressive interview.
National Freedom Party MP Sibusiso Mncwabe said she was outstanding during the interview.
While there was hefty debate for and against some of the candidates, including Judge Desai, Mkhwebane enjoyed the support of all parties except for the DA. However concerns were raised about removing a female judge from a bench already struggling with gender dynamics.

Throughout the process, Khoza repeatedly voiced her hope of finding a Public Protector who was supported by all, and not just by the governing ANC through its numerical dominance.
