Adam Gase could be hired by Miami Dolphins on Saturday

Gase was brought in for a second interview with the Dolphins Saturday morning, and as expected, he didn’t leave the building without becoming Miami’s head coach.

The Browns have also interviewed Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, Jacksonville offensive assistant Doug Marrone; and Dallas defensive secondary coach Jerome Henderson, who previously worked in Cleveland. Gase was a hot head coaching candidate around the league last season, but after the San Francisco 49ers botched the job offer process, he chose to come work with Jay Cutler and wait for another year. Philadelphia had scheduled a second interview with Gase for the weekend, but the Dolphins got the 37-year-old to meet with them a second time.

Gase has his work cut out for him with a highly-paid, but underachieving Dolphins team led by a talented but kind of dumb and childish Ryan Tannehill. Cutler also didn’t have Kevin White all season, and his slot wideout, Eddie Royal, missed seven games.

“He’ll be an excellent head coach without a doubt”, Manning said in a statement released by the Dolphins.

He was offensive coordinator of the Broncos record-setting offense in 2013 and 2014.

Gase worked six seasons on the Broncos’ staff as wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator from 2009-14, helping oversee multiple transitions between offensive schemes and quarterbacks.

The Dolphins new head coach will likely start filling his staff sooner rather than later so the next few days will be critical and fast-moving.

Despite his overall lack of experience, Gase has been praised as a “master of innovation” by Fox, “the smartest guy I know” by Peyton Manning and a “genius” by John Elway.

But the thing most Dolphins fans want to hear about is Gase’s plan for Tannehill, who hasn’t played well consistently during his four-year career.

The Eagles can still sign a good head coach, but missing out on Gase really puts a damper on the process. He followed Saban to Louisiana State and was a graduate assistant and recruiting assistant before beginning his National Football League career in 2003.

“We’ll be working on that today”, he said Saturday. He’s one of their eight coaches since their most recent playoff victory in 2000.
