Adam Gase: Former Broncos OC Named Dolphins Head Coach

He becomes the 12th head coach in franchise history, and was clearly their first choice when they began interviews Monday.

A team source told the Miami Herald that while a deal was not yet finalized, the two sides are making progress.

The Chicago offensive coordinator was the first candidate in a crowded field to be invited for a second interview with the Dolphins, a source said.

The Miami Dolphins did what the San Francisco 49ers should have done last offseason: They hired Adam Gase as their head coach.

But then-Bears coach Marc Trestman was sacked, and he was replaced by John Fox, who brought offensive coordinator Adam Gase with him from Denver.

Gase comes to Miami from the Chicago Bears where he served as offensive coordinator last season. He has no head coaching experience but has been a target of coaching searches for at least three years. Replacement Dan Campbell, who improved the team with a 5-7 record, interviewed for the job, as did Doug Marrone, Mike Shanahan, and several others.

“I’m very happy for Adam”, Manning said Saturday.

The Dolphins were expected to hire an offensive coach to mentor Tannehill. “I think it’s going to start with me”, Gase said.

Packers: Cornerback Sam Shields will miss Green Bay’s wild-card playoff game against Washington on Sunday because of a concussion. He’ll be an excellent head coach, without a doubt.

Gase did not make any predictions on Ryan Tannehill and admitted to not seeing a lot of film on the quarterback but said that it will all be about evaluation, of all the players.

“Slight issues” remain on the negotiating table as ESPN reported, but for all intents and purposes, Gase could be announced as the Dolphins head coach as early as Saturday. “He’s ready for this for sure”. He only has six years of coaching experience at the National Football League level and it would be irresponsible for the Eagles to give him the position without giving a few more seasoned candidates (like Hue Jackson or Lovie Smith) an opportunity.

Gase spent six seasons on the staff in Denver, where he helped Tebow win a playoff game.

Gase worked at LSU for three seasons (2000-02) under Nick Saban, starting off as a defensive graduate assistant in 2000 before working in recruiting from 2001-02.
