The jury has yet to reach a verdict over a second count of sexual activity with a child, involving digital penetration, on the same date.

Johnson is alleged to have engaged in a sex act with a 15-year-old girl while the pair were in his parked vehicle during a meeting last January.

But the former Sunderland FC winger denied two further charges of sexual activity with a child that were the subject of the jury’s deliberations.

But the girl told the jury at Bradford Crown Court that the encounter went much further.

The judge started his summary of the case to the jury on Monday and finished yesterday morning before sending the jury out to consider their verdict at 11.55am.

The former footballer was initially arrested at his £1.5m County Durham home on March 2 2015.

“If I wanted to meet her, it was easier to give her my number”, Johnson said.

His girlfriend Stacey Flounders initially vowed to stand by Johnson, but giving evidence during the case, revealed that they had now split up.

The count on which he has been cleared is the one relating to the oral allegation.

Judge Rose had previously told the court that Johnson had told lies during his defense, but that this did not necessarily indicate guilt.
