Adele May Not Stream ’25’ on Spotify

Along with news of Adele’s “25”, Coldplay has reportedly not committed to putting its new album, “A Head Full of Dreams“, on Spotify when it is released on December 4, according to a source.

The Verge, citing an unnamed source “with knowledge of the situation”, on Tuesday reported that 25 may be the next high-profile album that will not stream on Spotify.

“It is categorically untrue that anyone has asked us to feature Adele’s new album on premium only”, the representative tells The Verge. Speculations suggest that the artist might not make her future album available on Spotify, since Spotify is resisting limiting the new album’s availability only for paying users. If the tech giant manages to secure the “25” album, it would see a boost to its current 6.5 million paying customers, which could put it ahead of Spotify. In 2014, Taylor Swift batted the company around in the press, calling it “an experiment” as she kept the biggest album of the year, 1989, off the service.

25 drops on 20 November and is expected to sell over a million copies in its first week alone.

Spotify has two options in the case that the reports are true. However, even though Spotify may be the biggest streaming service in terms of numbers, if it isn’t getting the latest albums from the biggest players in the game, is it really the best streaming service around? Apparently Apple had (unsurprisingly) tried to get Adele to sign an exclusive with their platform, but were apparently rebuffed by the singer and her team. But right now Adele holds all the cards, and everyone is stuck playing the waiting game until she’s ready to show her hand.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is on a mission to convince singer Adele to work with Apple Music, Cult of Mac reports.

Spotify is the king of music streaming and has managed to fend off competition from the likes of Apple Music and TIDAL over the past 12 months.
